How
to Volunteer
To successfully organize
the National Folk Festival, we will need up to 700 enthusiastic
volunteers. We are now assembling a list and checking it twice
to match willing folks to the many necessary tasks.
These
jobs are less physically demanding than others -- many can be
done sitting down!
Performer
Check-in - Help
greet performers as they arrive at the hotel - answer questions,
count CDs and chat with some cool folks.
Chauffeurs - Give golf cart rides to seniors,
staff, performers, and some really tired folks.
Volunteer
Registration - Be
the first face to greet other volunteers and help get them where
they need to be.
Music
Logger - We
need detail-oriented folks to record and accurately log performances
from the sound booth. These recordings will become part of the
permanent collection at the Library of Congress in Washington,
DC.
Office
Volunteers - We
need help in the Festival office with mailings and other stuff
both before and during the Festival.
Craft Marketplace - Help
crafters with set-up, re-supply, and occasional meal breaks.
These
jobs require a lot of walking or
long periods of standing.
Vending
- Sell soda,
water, T-shirts, and other Festival items.
Site
Management -
Lend a hand at the stage area-help with seating, crowd control,
lost children, and whatever else pops up.
Public
Surveyor -
Cruise the
crowd at the Festival to record comments and suggestions from
the attendees.
Safety
Escort - Blow
a whistle and direct traffic as you help performer buses navigate
through the crowded festival grounds safely.
Music
Sales - A fun
and fast-paced job! Help sell performer CDs to those anxious
for some take-home tunes.
Backstage
Hospitality -
Assist performers and staff backstage with whatever they need.
A close-to-the-action kind of job.
Info
Booth - Answer
questions about performance times, directions, bathroom locations,
and much more.
Parking
Patrol - Ensure
the efficiency of the Festival's car-parking operation or patrol
the vendor and VIP parking lots.
Folk
Arts Stage -
Help out the demonstrators at the Folk Arts Stage and get a close
look at what others can only watch from afar.
Children's
Area - This
is your chance to contribute while playing games, being silly,
and having fun with kids.
Bucket
Brigade - Bucket
brigaders spread good cheer as they collect donations and hand
out stickers.
These jobs require some muscle!
Site Setup/Tear-down
- Help make the Festival site ready for the crowds and then help
clean it up after they've gone home.
Floater
- Live for
the moment -- be a floater, where you never know what or where
your next assignment will be. |
